The Autumn season is in full bloom meaning not only are the colours of the leaves ever changing but the colours of our lids and lips.
Autumn makeup for me is much stronger than that of Summer. The cooler air allows heavier makeup to be applied and darker colours to flourish. However, don’t be fooled into thinking you need a whole new look and wardrobe for the new season. When wishing to be playful with the makeup I recommend looking into ‘mini’ products, as this allows you to have the quality of higher end makeup, however not committing to some of the higher prices and bigger quantities. The M.A.C Cosmetic lip glass and eyeshadow palette, in the mini size, are some recent purchases of mine for the Autumn.
Normally this time of year is all about the deep berry lips, which I personally love. But for every day a berry lip can be tedious (depending on formula) as it can take some effort to maintain all day long, which is why I opt for a deep mauve but with more of a purple base. It is a darker twist on a classic pink mauve lipstick and the lip glass means lips look plump and sultry with little to no effort. One thing I will add is the consistency of the lip gloss is very sticky which aids in long wear, but can be a tormenting on windy days and long hair as I have experienced myself haha. If lip gloss isn’t your thing, I have linked some purple toned lipsticks which I love if that is more your cup of tea. ‘Whirl’ lipstick is one of my go-to deep nudes for this season as well as ‘Brick-O-La’ which is more of a reddy brown and honestly nothing similar to a nude, but it is a favourite of mine so I’m sharing it with you!
For the eyes, I opted for a smokey palette with classic smokey deep browns, golden shimmers and deep purples, yet with some lighter pink shades for the days, I want a soft lid. I have had a large M.A.C palette for many years and honestly, it is not the easiest to travel so this smaller size with the same quality of pigment is a welcomed addition to my makeup collection. The looks that can be created from these nine shades are vast, from smokey, golden, matte and shimmer this palette is sure to see me through Autumn and most probably the festive season. I have green eyes and find this palette compliments them beautifully with the golds and purples. I have found myself reaching for this palette for the past month and have really enjoyed mixing and matching each shadow for different looks.
Seasonal makeup doesn’t have to be overwhelming or expensive. The beauty of makeup is how playful it can be, especially during times of change such as the seasons. You don’t have to commit to a whole new look but even small changes such as a purple undertone to your nude lip can be a welcomed change, and let us be honest, there’s nothing better to put a pep in your step than rocking a new look which makes you feel confident and sassy.
